Day 1: Kigali to Kibale Forest national park

Transfer from Kigali to Kibale national park. The drive to Kibale takes approximately 6 hours. This is a scenic drive through the Kigezi highlands commonly known as the “Switzerland of Africa”.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking & Queen Elizabeth national park

At 7.00 am local time assemble at Kanyanchu park headquarters for briefing from the senior park ranger and at 8.00 am your guide will transfer you to the starting point for chimpanzee tracking. Normally the whole activity takes less than 4 hours. Later the guide will lead you to Chimps Nest Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon enjoy a nature walk in the Bigodi community Sanctuary anticipating a variety of forest birds and primates including different monkey species. In the evening transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. It takes 2 hours to get to Queen Elizabeth national park.

Day 3: Game drive and boat cruise

Rise up at dawn for breakfast and an early morning game drive anticipating early risers including predators and other nocturnal mammals before they retreat to their hideouts. Expect mammals including hippos, buffaloes, hartebeests, leopard, lions, etc and a plethora of both endemic and migratory birds. Return to the lodge for an early lunch. At 2.00 pm transfer to the Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise. The Channel is a magnet to all wildlife in this park. It boasts of a big number of birds than any single destination in Africa. Retire to your lodge for relaxation.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

Very early in the morning, enjoy your breakfast and transfer to Volcanoes national park. This day is a long drive but worth undertaking as you traverse the scenic Kigezi highlands – views of the Virunga peaks striding the DR Congo and Rwanda is a big spectacle. Overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (up-market) / Sabinyo / Virunga Lodges (Luxury)/ La Palme / Hotel Muhabura (budget)

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes national park

This day marks the major highlight of a 5 days Uganda Rwanda safari – gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes national park. In the morning converge at Kinigi park headquarters ready to embark on a gorilla trekking expedition. You will be allocated an hour with the gorillas in the wild. Return to the lodge for lunch before transferring to Kigali for a city tour including the Gisozi genocide memorial site. The guide will later transfer you to the airport for your scheduled flight.

  • Before boarding your plane, you will be required to show your covid 19 negative test results which should be valid for not more than 72hrs (applies for both Rwanda and Uganda)
  • Also you are supposed to fill a locator form (link below) which you will also be asked before boarding (failure to have it, you will be denied boarding)

  • Once you arrive in Kigali, you will take another covid 19 test and be in self quarantine at any of the chosen hotels in Kigali for 24hrs as you wait for your covid 19 test results

You will then start your tour after your results have returned and you are proved negative

  • These results expire every after 72hrs, hence if your tour is still going on, you will need another test to allow you enter any other park or do any other activity after 72hrs of your test. (This applies to Rwanda only, not Uganda)
  • Before departure from Rwanda or Uganda, you need to do another covid 19 test not more than 72hrs before your departure as you will be required to present your results before boarding your departure flight.
  • While on your tour, you are advised to carry your masks and maintain social distance whenever you are in the public
